Flat rate VAT percentage for web design company

Flat rate VAT percentage for web design company

Didn't find your answer?

A web design client has recently registered for VAT on the flat rate scheme.  Clearly the VAT people at HMRC haven't realised the web design it quite a large sector and it is not included in the list of sectors with a given percentage.

On this basis I can only assume we go with 12% (reduced to 11% initially) on the basis the company is covered by Business Services Not Listed Elsewhere.

Surely web design isn't included within 'Computer and IT consultancy or data processing' which appears to be the only other vaguely IT related category (which is at 14.5%, hence the need to clarify)

Reasonable
Your selection just needs to be reasonable to be defensive without any retrospective adjustment.

It's a tricky one to conclude on. Is a material part of the web designing process not consultative? I would say sound therefore would find that category to be the best fit.

If we turn the question on its head what would you consider to fit within the 14.5% category.?
