Free Bookkeeping software?

Free Bookkeeping software?

Didn't find your answer?

Most of my clients are on  Xero, Kashflow very few on quickbooks online and free agent. There are some free bookkeeping software as well when client do not want to pay for software such as Wave and Capium. Capium has everything in it but still clients struggle with it. Has anyone has anyone tried wave it just looks too good to be true to be a free software.

You haven't said whether you want cloud or desktop software.

For desktop I would say VT Cashbook, for cloud there is Quickfile or Sageone if you take the accountants package.

I use VT+ and the cashbook is a lite version of that.  Quickfile I've had a play with, it seems ok and has a good support forum.  I can't comment on sageone but a friend of mine said it's clunky.

Brightbook?

I don't use it but have registered for it and had a play around as I had a client wanting something 'free' so they could issues invoices.

Has quite a number of features including download of bank.

I'm a big fan of VT and Wave
Both have their place. As for Wave, it's incredible for free. It doesn't support standard VAT accounting. Of course an accountant could work around that but client probably not. I use it for those who like the cloud, like the look of wave (yes, aesthetics is a big draw on this one) and are non-VAT or VAT FRS. It has everything those clients could want. It does work a little slow but apparently their working on that. Bank link seems to work with most UK accounts. Supported by apps too for photographing expenses on the go. Definitely give it a try. Saying that, I've not had a look at Capium. Maybe I should.

Quickfile
Free for smaller users. Totally cloud. Bank feeds, VAT filing, GoCardless integration, non-proprietary data format, auto invoicing, all sorts of features, and great support

I have started to use and recommend Quickfile. My reasons:

1 It is easy to use, clients can understand it
2 Downloading of bank statements with automatic tagging (posting) to nominal ledger is fab and a massive time-saver
3 It is free (at present) for small users

Quickfile

I've got to say about Quickfile it offers good and comprehensive features but the User Interface very poor and I ruled out recommending it to client as it offers to prepare their accounts and CT Returns at very low prices.

Bean Balance

I've got a client who's just started using Bean Balance - again it's free but is UK based so appears better than Wave which is American.  It looks like it should handle VAT (standard and Flat Rate) but time will tell how good it actually is.

I havent looked at Wave in much detail so will check it out based on the above reviews but where do they generate their income from? Is this the one ran by accountants or is that Quickfile?

Further to the above..
Just found this on their site if anyone is interested:

"Free? What do you mean?"
When we say free, we actually mean free: You don't pay a thing for our free tools, no matter how much you use them. Not just a free trial. We mean simple, honest-to-goodness free.
What's 100% free in Wave?

Wave's invoicing, accounting and personal finance tools are completely free.

How do we do it?

Inside Wave, you'll see offers from companies like Amex, Staples, Dell, Moo and others. We call these our Business Savings. The companies offering Business Savings pay to have a presence in Wave, and that lets us provide awesome, innovative features to you for free. Pretty cool, huh? You get great offers that save you money, plus free online software from us.
