French redundancy

French redundancy

Didn't find your answer?

I have a UK resident/domicile client who was non-resident until 08/09 at which time the French employer made redundancies.  This year, after disputes between the employer and the employees he is to receive a redundancy payment of €73k.  Does anyone know the French rules on redundancy payments and what their tax deductions are likely to be?  I presume I then broadly treat it as I would a UK redundancy on hisa tax return and give credit for any French tax?  Anyone got any experience in this?

Without looking anything up...

...I have no idea what the French rules on redundancy would be and this is a question for a French accountant or tax adviser.

Also without looking anything up I would suggest that the redundancy payment is emoluments relating to a full-time employment in France and therefore only taxable in France under the Double Taxation Agreement. Therefore it should be reported in a French Tax Return and would only require a white space note in the UK SATR.
