is is good to start ACCA immediately after...

Didn't find your answer?

My Dear Friends.

My name is Mow and I am a student reading BA accounting and finance at West London University. I am going to start in this September my final semester of the course which I will graduate in December 2013.

I really need some advice regarding ACCA. I have the following questions for you.

First, it is good to start ACCA immediately after finishing university? Money is not a problem as I have saved my student finance and still live with my family. I am worrying if this is the case, and immediately start the Five professional papers as I will be receiving exemptions from F1 to F9, whether I will become "over qualify" for most accountancy jobs and remain unemployed for a long period of time.

My second question is : which one is best respected in the accountancy market, ACCA or Masters ?. I do not want to become an academic. my aim is to start working. one of my friends works in Ernst & Young he told me that in their  job interviews they prefer students who have already finished their  ACCA papers. they usually pay their staff to complete  their ACCA papers  within three years, and this requires huge amount of resources. thus having 2:1 degree with the ACCA, he told to be that I will be employed for sure. but I am not sure whether this is true and still worry Over qualify thing.final question is I have been told that the professional papers have to be sat and passed in one go, is this true?

my final question is I have been told that the professional papers have to be sat and passed in one go, is this true?

Answering those questions will really help me to decide which path to take.

MANY THANKS

Mow

Hi

As someone who has a degree in a completely unrelated discipline and waited many years before starting ACCA I would recommend you start as soon as possible. The longer you leave it, it becomes much harder - I've passed 12 of the14 papers and have 2 young children. It is definitely better to do it without distraction as your entire focus can be directed towards your studies.  As for doing your professional papers you can do them in any order you want, up to a maximum of 4 at any sitting. However, if you want to do P1 and P7 in one sitting and you haven't passed P2 and P3, they make pay to sit those exams too. I did P2 and P7 together as they're virtually the same subject and had to pay £360 in exam fees.

Slightly disagree
Totally agree get them out of the way sooner rather than later. The sitting all final papers in one sitting used to be true but they done away with this rule a few years ago. Now you must have passed papers P1,P2 & P3 before you can sit the 2 option papers (unless you were registered as a student prior to 2007 - they can sit them in any order)

Hi my dear friends.

thank you for your direct advice .  my dad,  himself an old school accounting and finance LSE student, has told me to do while the subject was fresh in my mind and before having a children. but do you think I will overqalify most undergraduate accountancy jobs? when I complete the papers.

thank you again.
