Hi All
I am hiring a qualified accountant (ACCA) who can work without any supervision, but a bit put off by his hourly rate demand.
I am based in north west london. Can anyone suggest what are you prepared to pay for a qualified accountant with an ACCA qualification who knows IRIS/SAGE etc.

Then when you have reviewed their work, you will know if they are worthy!

You say hiring so not sure if you are employing or he is to subcontract? I would expect to pay more to a sub contractor per hour as I would not be committing to x hours per week nor have issues like sickness pay/NIER/pensions/holidays etc.
Starting position is surely the salary in London for a qualified ACCA with 5 years post qualification experience thereafter modified for particular arrangement/circumstance .
Re London salaries as you are in London (I presume) surely you have a better idea what these might be than those of us in more provincial areas?
It has been a while since I last recruited a qualified accountant and that was in Sheffield.
I would expect an ACCA in London to be somewhere between £18 and £22ph.
The key is to ensure they don’t get bogged down with doing lots of admin work.
Are you in practice or industry? Look at the local recruitment agency rates and see what they are offering. I would expect more than £22ph if I were in industry but possibly about £25ph in practice in the South East so probably a bit more in London.

"it depends" if they are working essentially under their own steam and you dont need to do anything other than give them a client list (something I wouldn't do, but each to their own) then you need to cut them in pretty high.
It depends of course on your set up, Are you reviewing their work? Are you dealing with the client too? Or is it 'hands off' the the new guy who has their own assistant?
If the final option, then I wouldn't pay an hourly rate to something like that, but give them a share of their own cost centre, ie billing less the cost of their support staff, to rev 'em up and keep 'em motivated.
