Appointment date

Not familiar with the tools, but I would guess that the start date is when his employment started, and the appointment date is when he became a director.

If that's true the appointment date couldn't be before the start date.

More limited

But for PAYE purposes the 'employee' start date may be the scheme start date. I understand that there's life before the PAYE scheme, but since it's being flagged as an error maybe there's a more limited meaning here.
