No problems
Just filed an SA900 via TaxFiler and accepted by HMRC within 2 minutes. All SA100 safely tucked up with HMRC so I'm all done. Happy days!

Had a touch of Tom and Jerry syndrome at circa 11.15 today

Had a couple of returns at 11/ 11.30 today which  had multiple submission attempts but they all went through eventually ( I received receipts for all of them). That was me finished for another year, it is now fee note time this weekend, Hip, Hip,Hurrah.

I also finally got to move on to doing something more interesting at work (A JV outline proposal re a development site that will probably never actually go ahead, but at least it was pleasant to not have to deal with tax for a change)

Slow

Filed one around quart to four.  It wasn't acknowledged at the time but five minutes later it was recorded as submitted and I could print off an acknowledgement.

Only filed two today.  All done now.

Nearly there

Filed some earlier today without a problem but can't get through the gateway now. I assume this is 'peak hour'. Methinks time to do something else and file the last few later on when things are (hopefully) quieter.

Doesn't your software just get on with the submission and let you move on to something else?

I just submit them and then go back and check the return later to see if the software has stored the submission. Wouldn't want to sit around waiting for it...

Taxcalc just made 40 attempts to file over a 7 minute period

& failed.

Will defer trying to file any more for a few hours. Happy days.

Isn't this...

Isn't this where Portia pops up and wishes there was the facility to file returns earlier in the tax year?!

Early warnings on Thursday

We had one report of slow responses on Thursday morning on another thread. As I suggested there, 4-5pm on Friday was likely to see the peak that would most probably slow the system down.

Mouse - did you have any luck trying later in the evening? Or what about this morning.

Let us know if the system recovered and we'll check in with HMRC for an explanation on Monday morning. And good luck to anyone else working today!

Last night

So went out to see some clients,

Retuirned to office 9.30pm filed 30 to 40 returns no problems.

Back in this morning, and on first filing we're at attempt 58 and counting ....

It's NEVER EVER been this bad

edit: Attempt 75 and still counting

edit 2: Finally after 79 attempts and 14 minutes, FFS

Delay in acknowledgement, not submission

We found that there was no problem submitting the tax return - IRIS (and I assume other software likewise) reported immediately that the return had been submitted.  The delay came in polling for the acknowledgement.  I assume that the HMRC computer system was having a bad case of indigestion in processing the surfeit of returns it was receiving and just needed a bit of time to deal with the queue.  If you left it for 15 minutes and tried polling again, the acknowledgement came through first time.

And all of you who were bombarding the system 79 times were probably just slowing it up for everyone else!

BTC

I have no control, software just keeps trying to file, wait 10 seconds, tries again, waits 10 seconds, tries again, wait 10 seconds, tries again, waits 10 seconds, tries again, wait 10 seconds, tries again, waits 10 seconds, tries again, wait 10 seconds, tries again, waits 10 seconds, tries again, wait 10 seconds, tries again, waits 10 seconds, tries again, wait 10 seconds, tries again, waits 10 seconds, tries again

Only option is to cancel, which ain't an option,

meanwhile can't get on with anything else.

Over 100

One of the ones we were filing yesterday teatime with BTC got as far as attempt No. 162.  This morning I've filed about 7 of which one made it as far as attempt No 2.

Gone are the days when the Revenue computer was a real problem in truth,  We've had a couple of outages in the last two months and the filing problems are only temporary.  As a taxpayer I don't want to pay for a gold-plated computer system that doesn't feel any strain with Jan 30th filings, because it would be sat with its feet up for the next 360 days.

No delays experienced with TaxCalc

Experienced hardly any delays at all with TaxCalc. Most went straight through.

Some had to poll 15 or so times compared to the normal 5 or so but none took longer than 2-3 minutes.

Taxfiler worked fine

I had a one delay (at 5pm yesterday) in getting the submission acknowledgement, but I just logged off and checked back later.

My only delayed filing was about 4.15pm yesterday

I've had no real problems at all apart from yesterday at about 4.15.  Like others it just wasn't getting through.  Went and had a cuppa and by the time I got back it had gone although the email acknowledgement took another 10 mins or so.  It would be interesting to know how many per minute were being sent at that time.

SUBMISSION ERROR

Anyone know what this is.  I am told there are no errors on my return but after clicking 'submit' it looks as though its going through but then raises this error and tells me to correct it.

8299  [AIL4] is valid only if this does not exceed [AIL3].

@dido24

The message means that box 4 on page Ai3 of form SA101 is greater than box 3 of the same page.  i.e. The amount of relief not subject to capping exceeds the relief entered in box 3.
