HMRC Online services password

HMRC Online services password

Didn't find your answer?

OK, sometime between Friday and this morning, our password for SA/CT online has been changed. No-one is admitting responsibility, and I suspect something pear shaped at HMRC's end.

I contacted Online Services helpdesk and explained the problem, at which point I was asked for our agent ID, name, address and my position. I provided all information except the agent ID, explaining that I have no separate note of it, and can't get to it because I can't log in.

Here's where we hit a problem, because they refuse to help further. The only way to get a replacement password is to provide the agent ID, and I can't get the agent ID without a password.

Chicken and egg. Ideas?

Lost password link
Have you tried the 'lost password' link on HMRC's website, below the boxes where you normally enter your login details?

Yes - you have to put your agent code.

Scratch that - got there

Rang the ADL and for a change actually got someone helpful. Explained the problem and highlighted why a correspondence solution was not an option.

Young lady suggested I provide a client's details and she would provide the agent ID. Done and done, then password changed using the lost password link easy as pie.

It's a shame that the helpful ones only come around once every 10 calls.

Hmrc password issue

Dear all

Sorry to have continued on this thread. But we do have a similar problem where by we tried to reset the password and was sure we asked for online reset. But once this was completed, step 4, came up with a confirmation, the password will be sent by post!!! What a news!!

I tried ringing Hmrc to expedite the process of password recovery, but they so far have said we have to await for password by post which can take anywhere from 2 to 7 working days. In the past i have heard from others, we could ring them to get the details by post the next day? Is there such a way? We have Rti deadline to meet which falls on the 5th August, then a vat deadline as well on the 7th. Any help will be great. Thanks

Regards

Gripper

Reasonable excuse

If HMRC's actions or delays are the reason your submission is late, I would say that qualifies as reasonable excuse.
