HMRC webinars, Twitter Q&As and Youtube videos

HMRC webinars, Twitter Q&As and Youtube videos

Didn't find your answer?

HMRC has been ramping up their social media interaction recently by hosting a series of webinars and Twitter Q & As around RTI and other topics.

Have you participated in them? If so, what's your overall impression - did they help? Is social media a good way of communicating with taxpayers and advisers?

Call me a dinosaur

But I wasn't even aware that HMRC did Youtube videos or were on Twitter!  I dimly recall being invited to some sort of HMRC webinar, but for whatever reason I didn't attend.

They're in the process...

... of hiding it all, so we mere mortals can't find anything, so you might want to check it out.

Some of it's not too bad.  Twitter Q&As annoy the crap out of me, whoever does them.  I only go into twitter to look at Rachel's new picture!

Me neither

But thanks for highlighting them! Maybe they're more obvious to Facebook / Twitter devotees? I guess social media is a good idea to get some messages across but there is the risk that they might forget about the non-users in their excitement...

Thanks for your comments, folks. Although if we could please avoid going off-topic on this thread, I would really appreciate it.

Webinars OK, not so sure about the rest
I can see the value of YouTube webinars. I've never really seen the point of twitter so I don't understand what you can get across with such few characters. Although thanks George, for your guidance on technical matters. I see I may have to open a twitter account, err so that I can follow what important pronouncements come from HMRC about RTI, etc.

I do hope we never get to the stage where you can "friend" HMRC on Facebook or add them into your LinkedIn network.

I believe...

... you can "Follow" HMRC on LinkedIn and "Like" them on Facebook.

Oh no!
I think I'm going to shoot myself. HMRC and Facebook are two things that just shouldn't go together.

Twitter = 0, You Tube = good

Don't do Twitter.   Facebook I don't do much with either.  Ditto. Linkedin.

I did sit through a You Tube video re: RTI with a client recently and thought that it was quite helpful to educate the client on why changes to payroll proceedures were called for.

Notice

I've followed one twitter Q&A session but only knew about as Moneysoft had put a link on facebook that morning - a bit more notice would be helpful. The Q&A did give a link to a webinar.

No Twitter No Facebook, No Youtube.....

for me. I am just about on Linked In and find the few e.mails i get pretty much full of rubbish discussions, I much prefer the AWEB site.

Didn't know any of this HMRC stuff existed. But given my strict adherence to a minimalmist social networking presence perhaps not surprising.

#democratus

Totally agree with you on Facebook, Twitter etc.

But I suppose the object is to reach a completely different demographic from us. People who don't see the point in Puccini and who don't think that 'rap music' is an accidental oxymoron by someone who couldn't quite find the letter 'c'.

These folk have to interact with HMRC as well, whether they like it or not, and social networks are the way to do it.

OK so here's today's bad joke:

Sheep's favourite website?
