How to claim subsistence for working away from home

How to claim subsistence for working away from...

Didn't find your answer?

I have been working as a Retail Merchandiser since February 2014.  My job involves working on new store openings on projects which can last from 1 - 14 days in different parts of the country.  We are given a hire car for each job, I pay for the fuel and get it reimbursed in full.  I also have to take passengers with me.  I stay in a hotel for each job.  As I have only just found out that I could be eligible to claim for subsistence while I am away, I haven't kept any receipts for meals.  Therefore I would like to know whether I can claim for the benchmark amounts without any receipts?  Is the fact that I am staying in a hotel proof that there has been expenses incurred?  Also from what I have read up on business mileage, as the fuel costs are reimbursed in full and I am given a hire car, that I would'nt be able to claim for any travel or mileage expenses.  I would just like some clarification on this.  Many thanks Laura.

aren't you reimbursed for meals when being reimbursed for hotel charges?

No, the company pay the hotels directly. All we get is our breakfast in the hotel. We don't get given any expenses

How do you pay?

How do you pay for the meals? Do you pay cash or do they appear on bank statements or credit card statements?

I use my debit card or cash. Most of them will show on my bank statements. Can I use this instead of receipts?

Yes NEEDS MORE BECAUSE OF SPAM BLOCK

Bank statement entries or cash payments can still be claimed although you may have problems with HMRC if they check.
