How do BPP, Tolley and Kaplan compare for exam training?

How do BPP, Tolley and Kaplan compare for exam...

Didn't find your answer?

Dear Forum users,

Have had a really poor experience with BPP yesterday. Duly paid up my fees for the ATT Corporate Taxation paper training. Organised 4 days off work this month, not to mention the childcare logistics...

Only to be sent an email at 2.48pm to tell me they were changing the dates of the course (which had been set for months) and rather than delaying the start date, they brought it forward to the next day, 9am start. I saw the email at 10am the next morning, after the course had started and needless to say, can't rejig things to join the new dates.

Have had a quick look around to see where else I can access some exam prep and the other two are the only other providers.

Any hints or tips as to good or bad experiences before I cancel my tuition with BPP and move to a new provider?

Thanks,

Hi

In terms of study support/tuition I would feel that in general they will be as good as each other, of course there are always specific tutors a student might prefer. As for materials, I'm not sure about Kaplan, but I do know BPP now use Tolley's notes. Have you considered online options?

Out of interest, which BPP office was this? Also, have you tried negotiating a discount with BPP for the inconvenience?

We use Kaplan

Our staff go to the local Kaplan for AAT and ACCA and ICEAW, I went 50+ miles to Leeds for CTA, no complaints over the years. I would have had no issues going to Tolley's if they had courses near me, but they did not.

Kaplan do now use Tolley's texts for CTA so possibly also for other tax courses.

FirstIntuiton have a joint arrangement with Tolley's, this might have extended the offering of Tolley courses.

Hi NHGloss and Martinscutt,

Many thanks for your replies. BPP did offer me a 10% discount on my next booking and the office was wherever they assign applications for a live online courses. My main issue was that they were so offhand about the way that they handled everything. I questioned why they hadn't taken the trouble to call given they were bringing the date forward not delaying it and they said that didn't have the resources at the time and they thought an email was adequate. I will be interested to see if more students come forward after tomorrow which when the course was supposed to start.

Just frustrating when you've geared yourself up to dedicating the time and effort to do something and clearing that time is an issue.

Anyway, will give Tolley a go I think as they seem to cover so much of the background supporting material anyway.

Thanks again,
