How far back can remittance basis be claimed?

How far back can remittance basis be claimed?

Didn't find your answer?

My client never declared South African income and neither did she claim remittance basis since 2009. She's non-dom and has declared the income in SA. She's also submitted tax returns in the UK for all previous years. She would need to resubmit previous years tax returns to either declare the South African income or to claim remittance basis. My question is if she does this, would HMRC still grant her remittance basis, or would she need to pay tax on the arrival basis? And if she can only claim a few years back, how far back could she claim?

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.
