Hi, I have a problem with my Sage bank rec - the brought forward balance no longer agrees to that on the bank statement. Someone has presumably deleted something but how on earth do I find out what?! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

How far back is it to the last reconciled balance? Are you talking about the year end balance?
Print off the May
Reconciled report that was saved when the reconciliation was done, (I always print off the reconciled report anyway and file it with the bank statement) This will show you all the transactions that were reconciled. How run a new report for all unreconciled transactions at the end of May. Look for items on the reconciled report that are showing up again in the unreconciled report. This will be the first step. Then look for items that were deleted and then re-entered with a later date from the original. If this doesn't highlight the issue it may be that something has been deleted and not re-entered. In that case you will have to back to the beginning of May and start the reconciliation again. This all assumes that the April reconciled balance is still correct
Couple of suggestions
If you think it's one transaction, then search for the value in the bank nominal you can sort by value so this is easy. You can do the same in Posting Error Corrections, to look for deleted transactions.
If it's more than one transaction, depending on which version you are on, you can run either "statements" or "reports/statements" you want the one that lists each statement saved, and then simply look down the list for deleted transactions, they show up as such in the statement report
But
Sometimes it allows post reconciliation transaction to be included in the period prior to that rec.
Check everything around that date.
Change Settings
In company preferences un tick box excluding deleted items. then go back into back and put in amount order or any order you like and you should see it red or put in transaction order either way you will find as you can see the history of want they did. I always find mistakes that way.
