How to get started as a training firm?

Didn't find your answer?

Hi Everybody,

I've recruited recently and having decided that all the qualified accountants I came across just didn't seem to have the skills I wanted for a futuristic cloud firm, I decided to just hire a new graduate that's grown up surrounded by the internet and train them from scratch.

I actually think I can train them myself for everything that I need them to do and one month in that's going pretty well. However, for their own development I guess it's important that at some point I put them through some formal training and exams. I thought there would be lots of AAs about this but could only find ones from the student's perspective.

So how should I get started? I'm an ICAS member and have an ICAS practicing certificate. I am in no way loyal to ICAS though so if ACCA is going to be much cheaper and easier then that seems the way to go. Can I even do that or do you need an ACCA PC to provide 'relevant experience'? Also how much should I expect it all to cost? I know most firms make the students pay up but I'd rather avoid that and just make them pay for any retakes.

I realise I should probably have worked all this out before hiring someone but that would be boring ...

ACCA

We are an ICAEW partnership with ICAEW practising certificates, but we got frustrated with the complexities of ACA training, so we became and remain an ACCA training office.  It was so long ago that I have forgotten the procedure.

a simple but effective answer...
... Just google acca training practice and you will get the acca' s guidance. I just googled it and it was the second one feom the top.

Not bad for a qualified accountant.

Beaten to it

I was just going to say the same thing as J&H - get it straight from the horse's mouth. Why ask on here when the ACCA will actually give you the full details...

Yeah but

I take your point but I was hoping to find out if there were things worth knowing that wouldn't be immediately volunteered by ACCA (such as if I would be better off using ICAS) or if there are cheaper/more efficient ways of doing things.

Though it is certainly good to have my faith in qualified accountants restored, as a qualified accountant myself I have a lot to learn about google searches, whenever I tried to find the relevant ACCA page I ended up with stuff from the trainee's perspective.

perhaps just asking the queation.....
... Without critising a large segment of this forum would have had a far better response. 227 views and only 3 comments prior to your own.

If you had simple asked "hqs anyone had any experience with acca employer training practices and how does it work?" or something similar then you perhaps would have got a far differwnt response.

However in your first paragraph you seem to view qualified accountants in a negative light, whilst asking for advice on how to train your employee to become one.

Wasn't at all the intention to offend anyone.

Getting my shovel out - I was just saying it as a (misplaced) aside because I really did struggle to find experienced accountants that seemed (yep, vague word) like they would be comfortable doing things in a different way to how they have over the last ten years. I think it's going to be a real problem for the industry as it moves more and more online. I would expect that is much less likely to be the case with the average aWeb reader though. If anyone else running a practice with a cloudy is watching I'd be very keen to know there experiences?
