The last appeal letter and forms submitted to HMRC on reasonable excuse penalties was answered in about five weeks but my latest appeal on behalf of a client has now dragged on for about nine weeks. Are you finding that this is accurate for a response from HMRC for your clients.
I now need to chase this up as this now seems a long time.

I recently received a letter "thank you for your letter of 10 October 2015...."
< insert bull shit response that ignores all my queries in initial letter >
"Please reply within 30 days."
Complete joke department.
I find it staggering. Clients don't believe it when you tell them after 8 weeks of waiting for a response that it's still a bit too early to expect a reply.
"Where's my reply"
Agent update 53 at page 5 has an article / link "Where's my reply?" - unfortunately I can't see appeals mentioned, but just maybe one of the other links or contact details will lead to an answer?...

Appeal re 11/12 £1,200 penalty sent September 24th 2015, response (successful) received December 18th 2015.
I always allow 100 days before chasing HMRC - I'm still waiting for a letter from September to be answered. I find if you 'chase' too early you just get a two line response fobbing you off and not actually responding to the (often) comprehensive two page letter send in to HMRC originally. Clients think we make it up!
