How to network with other Accountants?

How to network with other Accountants?

Didn't find your answer?

Hi All

I am setting up an outsourced Accounting/Bookkeeping firm and I am trying to find accounting firms to partner with in order to get work. I have called up several local firms but finding this quite hit and miss in terms of responses and speaking with the relevant person. How can I meet other accountants? Are there any specific networking groups accountants go to? I know with some they restrict the number of professions they allow in, which is not helpful to me. Any advice would be appreciated.

Marketing is a science all of its own. Most of us hate to be called out of the blue.

There are probably 25 ways of getting to your target audience. But first make sure your target audience is niched down so you know the typical type of practice, size and location. Then you can work out how to get their attention.

Marketing is very hard work and can be soul destroying if you aren't clear what you are trying to achieve, who you need to work with and how to target that group of businesses.

I have learned a great deal from The Entrepreneur's Circle on how to do marketing. Google it for more details. Join them and stop wasting lots of your time and effort.

Your approach will always be hit and miss.

But that is the nature of marketing nothing produces 100% return. Some of the accountants you have approached may well offer the same service as you in house, so will see you as a threat so your approach will be met with not much assistance. I have tried networking with mixed results. I attend whenever possible meetings of my accounting association and I have a small network of accounting friends who I regularly meet with to bounce things off. For me your efforts are best spent on website SEO and google adwords which if set up correctly will give you a return. if you want to work with other accountants I would try and approach other 1 man band style operations as bookkeeping is something that they would be more likely to subcontract on. Finding your own work who you can I turn pass onto your friendly local accountant may lead to other work from them in return.

Be really, really good at book keeping -

When the end of year info and sage backups - or what ever you send are spot on, on time and with questions answered, the accounting firms you deal with will notice and they will send you work.

If they don't,  approach them.  Speak to the senior partner who deals with YOUR book-keeping - tell him you're looking for work, if they don't have any work ask them who they think might.

Build a relationship with individuals in every practice you deal with.

Are you fairly outgoing?

If you go on any accountancy or tax related CPD course such as those organised by Mercia, you will find the room full of your target market.

At registration / coffee break/ lunch there will be time to introduce yourself to others who have turned up on their own in addition to engaging in polite chit-chat with the delegates on either side of you.
