If a client spends money extending a factory does that qualify for Annual Investment Allowance?

If a client spends money extending a factory...

Didn't find your answer?

Client extended factory at a cost of £7500 (approx) in 2011/12. Can you claim annual investment allowance for this amount?

Someone said to me that this should be an improvement to property and not subject to AIA claim so if they sell property they can take into account for Capital Gainst purposes.

All help and clairiifcation appreciated

In general expenditure on setting- ie the fabric of the premises within which trading takes place -do not qualify for  AIA or any other CAs claim, but there may be some expenditure within that overall work which may qualify- eg on the acquisition/instalation of specific items of plant & machinery, fixtures & fittings or on items which represent Integral Features- outlined as:

Electrical systems (including lighting systems);

* Cold water systems;

* Space or water heating systems, powered systems of ventilation, air cooling or air purification, and any floor or ceiling comprised in such systems;

* Lifts, escalators and moving walkways;

* External solar shading

Integral Features will qualify for reduced WDAs in a special pool, but it would be possible to include them in a claim to AIA, along with any qualifying plant & machinery etc expenditure, subject to the applicable annual maximum expenditure. If qual costs more than the annual AIA limit, would claim AIA on IF costs in priority.
