IFRS focus group

IFRS focus group

Didn't find your answer?

We are looking for financial controllers in medium to large businesses and partners from medium to large accountancy firms to take part in a focus group run by Wiley and Sift Media - the publisher of AccountingWEB -  to explore key issues that affect financial reporting, including IFRS. The focus group will take place on Wednesday, November 30th, in London.

In addition to the focus group, we would like to invite participants to stay for a working lunch, in which we will ask them to assess and give us their views on the current IFRS offering from Wiley.

The session will be informal and will  allow an opportunity to network with a select group of your peers on financial reporting issues.

We would like to offer all participants of the IFRS focus group £100 worth of Wiley books. Participants of the extended working lunch session will also be offered a single user one year complimentary subscription to International GAAP online, base edition (both of these incentives will be provided direct from the Wiley website).

Date: Wednesday 30th November 2011

Place: John Wiley, 25 John Street, London, WC1N 2BS

Time: 9.30-12.45pm

Extended session to include working lunch: 1.00pm – 2.30pm

If you would like to attend, please comment below or email sroth [at] siftgroups.com by lunchtime on Tuesday 29 November.

This looks like advertising to me.

Why not pay for space as other advertisers do?

It's an in-house posting - and I'll be going

Hi Moonbeam,

I just thought I would point out that Steve used to be managing editor of AccountingWEB before he moved across to our sister company, Sift Groups.

For the past few months he's been facilitating a project to bring interactive and community-based activity to Wiley's online IFRS content and it seemed a natural fit to involve AccountingWEB and its members in this process. Steve Collings, our regular financial reporting contributor, is also a Wiley author, so he is likely to have a hand in the project too.

I was present at a previous scoping session with the Wiley team and was really excited by the ideas that emerged. But now we need to test them in the real world, which is what the focus group is all about - what IFRS content are accountants looking for, how do they like to access it, and what kinds of approaches would be most effective to cater for their needs in the future?

In case you think IFRS is something purely for big, listed companies and medium-to-large accountancy firms, remember that UK GAAP is converging in that direction quite quickly. FRSME, the UK adaptation of the IFRS for SMEs, will come into play during 2013-14 and before long I'm certain we'll see FRSSE changing shape to be more consistent with IFRS treatments. If the Wiley project goes well - with our help - then there might be something useful in place when AccountingWEB members need to get to grips with international standards.

If you can spare a morning on Wednesday to offer your views, do come and join us in London!

Wednesday

Hi,

I would have definitely come along to the Focus Group on Wednesday because our initial meetings earlier in the year were very progressive, but unfortunately I have another engagement, but I have asked Wiley to keep me updated with the developments and I will add my input before the Christmas holidays.

It is an excellent project, with huge potential, and I hope all goes well on Wednesday.

All the best

Steve
