IHT and Swiss Property

IHT and Swiss Property

Didn't find your answer?

My wife died in 2011 leaving a property in Switzerland in her Will to me as her husband. IHT returns have been submitted and the tax position on the whole estate has been agreed with HMRC, there is no tax payable.  The property now needs to be transferred to me and my lawyer in Switzerland is saying that there is no tax due in Switzerland on the transfer as the Swiss authorities will follow UK probate. This sounds right to me as I'm UK domiciled as there are double taxation treaties between the UK and Switzerland, but my fellow executors are for some reason questioning the tax position in switzerland.  Can anyone confirm that the Swiss lawyer is right or am I likely to have to hire someone to get confirmation.  Any advice welcome.  Thanks
