Import VAT

Import VAT

Didn't find your answer?

Company importing goods from non EU country and using clearing agent to pay duty and import VAT and this is then invoiced to company.

The agent is charging a fee to make the payments on the company's behalf and I wondered if it's possible to pay HMRC directly? I'm not sure how this would work as the agent would still be required to complete the customs declarations.

Thanks.

Deferment

You would have to set up a deferment account, which the agent then uses. Then you are billed directly for the VAT and duty and there is no outlay for the agent. The only way your client can reclaim the VAT is to receive the C79.
