Importing transactions from VT Cashbook to VT Transaction+

Importing transactions from VT Cashbook to VT...

Didn't find your answer?

Hi All,

I have a client who uses the free VT Cashbook to do all their bookkeeping.

I now want to import their transactions into my VT Transaction + file which I have used to do their accounts myself previously.

What is the best way to do this?

1.) I was planning on using the Universal Input Sheet, but I can't see any way to import the transactions, including the VAT double entry.  Am I missing something?  I am copying the entries from the main "HOME PAGE" Summary Date sheet, which only gives the Gross Amount and doesn't break down the VAT element.  I am then then Importing via the Universal Input Sheet, but it doesn't import the VAT Entries!!!

2.) Exporting the Trial Balance from VT Cashbook and then Importing it into VT Transaction+.  This works, however, I then lose the detail behind the TB.  Is there any way to Import the TB keeping the detailed behind it?

I realise an alternative is for us both to share the same file and keep it on Dropbox, or something similar, but this is not something I particularly want to do!

Many thanks, in advance.

David.

It's very simple - no export/import needed

You can choose one of the following:

right click the .vcb file, and then select 'open with VT Transaction +'copy the .vcb file and then rename the copied file suffix from .vcb to .vtr and then it will open automatically in VTT+ when double clicked.

They are the same thing

VT Cash Book files and VT Transaction+ files are identical except, as pointed out above, they have different file name extensions (the extensions tell Windows which program to open the file with when you double click on it - these days the extensions are usually hidden by Windows).

You can use the same file interchangeably between VT Transaction+ and VT Cash Book by right clicking on it and selecting the application you wish to use.

To permanently change the extension, open the file with VT Transaction+ and choose the File>Change File Name Or Type command.

VT Final Accounts can be linked to a VT Transaction+ or a VT Cash Book file.

Sorry, but you cannot merge files if that is what you are trying to do.

one unexpected bonus

..seems to be that previous years "reopen" where they had been finalised, so you can click on previous years and see all the transactions in each account.
