Iris - cost of ugrading package

Iris - cost of ugrading package

Didn't find your answer?

Just called Iris as I need to upgrade from 150 to 200 Accounts Production clients........£690 plus VAT one off fee for this!!

This is a crazy pricing structure - why not have a simple price for the annul fee rather than a huge one off bill!!!

If I could be bothered with the hassle of moving all clients onto other software I would, as this is outrageous.

It's worth the bother

You will save shed loads of cash!  Plenty of other good and much cheaper packages out there.

... but no-one claims that the other packages are better than IRIS.  Perhaps, you get what you pay for.

.

Its a question of how big your practice is and if integration saves your assistant (or you) more money than it costs to buy.

For us its a waste of money. I get a whole month and a half of my assistant for the cost of the upgrade last time I looked.

Crazy pricing

I too think it is a crazy pricing structure - it sticks in the throat everytime we want to upgrade.  It is counter productive and has caused us to delay our upgrades several times in the past (and go through the rigmarole of regularly deleting clients more sooner that we would have liked to free up the licence).  It must surely costs them money.

However now we have upgraded to a modular package (i.e. unlimited clients) we are now in a much happier place and there is nil cost to each additional client.

... is adding users, costs too much and is too inflexible, I am sure they would make much more if you could set a core number and you could add and drop above that core on a pro-rate basis rather than having to pay a massive upfront cost. Your core user numbers could be reviewed periodically and increased as appropriate if your average increased. We have 5 PT users, we struggle November - January with PT when we could do with 2 or 3 extra users, but would be stuck with them February through October when they are not all needed.

refund?

Does IRIS give you a refund when you drop down a client level?

[rhetorical question]

Simple solution

Make sure you put fees up to clients by more than the cost of the increased subscription.

Say 50% more  to cover administration and moaning on forums about prices going up ;)

£1,000 across 200 clients = £5 each.

Hardly seems worth moaning about ;)

Back in the day

In fairness its worth making the point that the cost of practice software is insignificant compared to the absolutely massive productivity savings that it gives you.

Not so many years ago it was the norm to post working papers to ETB’s or even bound ledgers – take all afternoon to find the difference in the TB, photocopy last year’s accounts and pencil in this year’s figures.  If an adjustment was required all the figures in the accounts, including the source and app changed.  Then send it down to be typed.  A week later it would come back for the bane of every junior’s life ‘calling and checking’.

If we didn’t have practice software then even in my small firm I reckon we would probably need an extra 2-3 staff.  The downside is that there are fewer opportunities for juniors to enter the profession.

Unbelievably there are still firms out there that don't have accounts production software.

refund

re the comment above, do you get a refund when you drop down a level.  Unsurprisingly of course not.

But if you then grow and need the higher level again, you have to pay the initial fee for it again, even though you've bought it previously.

Agree about cost

The time savings achieved by using software is incredible. As was said above, the cost per client is very little. So it is a question of comparing software. Iris is a good product and is very expensive and seems to jump in price regularly. Digita's prices don't seem to rise. They seem to assume that you will expand and need more of their software or more clients or users. Most other software seems to be cheaper but doesn't have the power of Iris or Digita.
