IRIS COSTS

IRIS COSTS

Didn't find your answer?

Hi

I am wondering if anyone can advise on what they currently pay for Iris software. I have a 10 client starter pack and currently pay £90 per month. With nothing to compare to, I wondered if this was a standard fee or something that could be negotiated. Also, I wondered if anyone had details of the cost if i have more clients.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There are several cheaper options out there but...

for me Iris always been great value for money as it handles pretty much everything I need to handle clients' affairs plus a lot of what I need to run the business.

The trouble with comparisons is that there are now many Iris extras on top of the starter packs  (I run Incorporations, Co Secretarial, Dividend service and the "can't do without" Practice Management) that it's difficult to compare like with like.  So, with one extra user, for a 30-40 SP (I forget) I pay Iris a few thousand a year.

I'd also mention the free/added benefits of OpenSpace with electronic approval of docs and, now, e-checklists for the personal tax returns.

As far as I am aware a 10 SP allows you to do up to 10 sets of business accounts and 20 personal tax returns and so on a per client basis I think £90 pm is fine however if you only have say 5 businesses & 8 tax returns it would appear to be expensive.

In all the 20+ years I've been with them I've had loads of talks with my ac managers over what I have and what I might need and they have always been really helpful in finding the right mix & match, so give them a call if you don't think you are getting VFM.

Thank you Paul, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. At the moment I have 6 small  businesses as clients so my software costs attributable to each is £15 per month. I do agree that the software is great, and perhaps I shall persevere with the cost with the aim to grow my business. From your comments id does seem the more clients you have the cheaper the cost per client.

Thanks again!

I've never used Iris

So I cannot comment on how good it is, but I have used other integrated systems in the past.

I have found 'best of breed' software to be quicker, as well as cheaper.

As a comparison, you could get Taxfiler (50 returns of any type) for £12 per month, and VT Accounts for £199 (£150 per yr on renewal) for unlimited accounts and that includes free bookkeeping software. That would give you a massive saving, and allow you to grow without incurring unknown extra costs.

I have a hearty dislike of any software vendor who won't reveal their prices. How can you plan ahead if you don't know what the costs will be?

Cost of Iris

We use Iris and are about to move to Digita.

We're moving because

a) We find Iris a very arrogant company to deal with always looking for a way to "put one over" us

b) It's very expensive

(and yes, our reasons are in that order)

10 Unlimited Accounts licences, 4 unlimited corp tax users, 4 unlimited personal tax users, 4 automail, 3 PM licences, 2 co sec - £19,500 pa

We are also taking over another practice and so we are more than doubling our licence requirements with Digita and we are having to pay for complete retraining and data transfer and the price is still less than we are paying now, lus they will hold it for 5 years and actually seem appreciative of the business.

I too was considering jumping from Iris to Digita at this renewal, but in the end decided to stay with Iris as (a) they at last appear to be recognising that their arrogance is losing market share as they agreed to cap future increases and allow interest-free payment in instalments, and (b) I only found their quote £1,000 higher than Digita and that was not really like-for-like as Digita's quote excluded audit.

So, Steve, when they realise they are losing you they may well sharpen their pencil.

I have always used IRIS and, while it is expensive, it is a fantastic product.

Having said that, I too am looking to move - and NOT because of the cost.

The service is terrible: unhelpful, arrogant, don't reply to emails etc.

The problem is finding a package that is as good!

Steve - is Digita anywhere near as good?
