IT systems + software

Didn't find your answer?

further to much earlier query on hardware specs [ thanks to all on that thread] I've finally got a lenovo win7 64 bit 8gb ram 500g HDD + dvdcd+ several usb3's

as this is a spare machine + will not be used too often we have deinstalled old office97 [yes!!! i know]  from the old machine.

Have that original cd and want to load to the new .  The dvdcd drive does not recognise it [ the cd has content as evidenced on other machines today] + the new drive does recognise other cd's also to load  .   what are my options for this position

we have no inhouse tecky + and our SME one-man consultant is seemingly abroad

about to try + google - but all here have been particularly IT literate and most helpful in the past

Try cleaning

the cd gently with a soft cloth.

Alternatively, since it works on other machines, have you got an external USB cd/dvd drive you could use? (They are cheap as chips to buy).

Superfish
You may want to check that you have not got one of their 'superfish' machines.

Check the DVD in device manager, select its properties, insert a disk and populate on the Volumes tab. This may indicate where the problem lies.

Not Compatible

Office 97 is not compatible with Windows 7 without changing things a bit, see this link for advice:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/windows/en-US/20f1fd69-4f29-...

If you don't specifically need Office, you could try a free alternative (such as libreoffice or use a cloud app such as Google Docs)

Does the CD show up in Disk Management (Press start and type Disk Management in the Search Box - it will show as 'Create and Format Disk Partitions). If the CD drive is listed in there, right click on it and select Open, or Explore. Then choose the file called SETUP.exe

Have you tried a different CD in the drive to see if the drive works (e.g  a music cd). If this doesn't work, I suggest you return the laptop to the place you purchased it for a refund or replacement.
