A lot of accountants

A lot of accountants

Didn't find your answer?

In a 66 unit strip of shops on Merton High Street, London SW19, there are SIX firms of accountants. They are all on one side of the road - the north side - as the other side of the road is mainly houses and flats.

This seems a lot for such a small area. I'm about one mile south east of this area.

They were a mixture

There were at least a couple of very respectable accountants and at least one that seemed a little dodgy - tax returns for £99 and two years for £150 ( not £149?).

like Estate Agents

Maybe accountants are now congregated like Estate Agents

There are too many accountants full stop even where I am based.

Are these small practices ?

They are all small. One or two may be 10 employees.

I did have a client who was an hairdresser in one of the shop fronts. I went to visit her and I was amused that she had an accountant right next door to her.

Years ago I did consider having a shop front but I am more than happy with my decision to work from home. The vast majority of new clients are gained from recommendation or seeing my website. I do get a few enquiries from people who have seen my board outside my house but they phone up first.

Location

Unless you're specifically picking up local trade does it really matter who's next door?  I couldn't give a hoot.

Many firms in my area congregate together along with some law firms.  Lunchtime is somewhat exciting!!

David Winch, some years ago, referred to;

"A fiddle of accountants"

Which I quite like

You get a fiddle of BBC employees.

You get a pack of lawyers.

And you get a fudge of accountants – some of whom are cockwombles.

Edit: Corrected for Portia.

That should be "some of whom

That should be "some of whom are cockwombles. And it is a drudgery of accountants, incidentally.

Collective

Could one have an 'avoidance' of accountants?

IT'S..........

It's a balance of accountants and an audit of bookkeepers.

(Though I quite like a cell of accountants)

(They've decided to be a collective)
