Maternity and claining expenses

Maternity and claining expenses

Didn't find your answer?

Tricky question,  a director is on maternity leave and has used all her KIT days but still does a bit of running around for the company (fetching and taking to suppliers) incurring mileage costs.  She is not being paid for her time doing the running around but would like to claim mileage expenses, is this allowed without affecting her maternity benefits?

I think she has already affected by working more than the allocated KIT days. Without looking at the guidance, I believe the KIT days refer to work and not remunerated work.

KIT days
You need to have a read about KIT days - even 1 hour per day equals 1 whole KIT day so I imagine from what you say she is well over the 10 days.

Thank you

I agree expenses = working = not allowed unless on a KIT day.

Expenses or no expenses, if she worked within the business and she has already used her KIT days then the benefit stops.

As others have said...

If she is doing anything at all for the business it is classed as working again, once she's gone over her KIT days allowance, she is no longer able to claim maternity pay or MA.

KIT days don't even need to be paid, it is up to the employer/ee to agree terms.

Shared Parental Leave

Could she look at shared parental leave, there are an extra 20 days equivalent to KIT days under these rules.  These are in addition to the maternity KIT days.
