Mileage claim

Mileage claim

Didn't find your answer?

I have a client who was at a temporary work place.

No reimbursement for mileage was made by employer.

For part of the period the client had no car available to her and her mum effecively acted as chauffeur. I can't see any Hmrc guidance on this whether she could claim the 45p a mile for this period.

Any thoughts? She has advised that she used to give her mum petrol money - would that be a more appropriate claim- but then there are no receipts available.

I don't think so.

Not as a passenger.

Thank you - that's exactly what I was looking for but couldn't find it.

Amounts reimbursed to mother for petrol would you allow that as travel expenses? Or would that be pushing it?

I concur with the above contributor.

Regarding your new question, I don't think there is an opportunity to claim anything here.

Disagree

The correct section is s231, (not s229 as noted above) but the provisions are identical.

The general rule at s359, which disallows any deduction for using a vehicle, only applies if the vehicle is one to which s229 or s231 applies. If we agree that she cannot claim mileage relief because she is a passenger, she is then not prohibited by s359 from claiming the actual costs
