MLR Checks

MLR Checks

Didn't find your answer?

I use taxcalc software for returns but have been wondering about using their AML electronic service.

Yes at £3 per search it is not cheap but hopefully the time saving is easier than all the physical time of copying and witnessing documents.

Does anyone use it or another provider and is it a) reliable or b) returns so many chacks as needing physical verification that it is too much time and effort to use in the first place

I would be interested in your views

Thankyou

not personally but

have previously used a similar service by a different provider

If it works, it saves time, if it asks you to get the MLR docs anyway, it has wasted £3!

Limited use

I don't really understand the point - you need a passport/drivers licence as the starting point anyway and you would still need to conduct your risk assessment.

I used a similiar service for a while but stopped when I started to distrust the technology and operational issues around it.

The only situation I can see it being of benefit is in the case of remote clients who you will never meet.

@Roland

I agree with the sentiment re the technology but as I recall (and I was not the individiual at the firm who did the verifications) but the service negated the need to actually get the passprort in the firstplace !

(I am sure other Or Mr Winch) have a view!!

You are correct in that you do need the physical document, just the reference number, however it is more than likely that on average you will just be given the document by the client if you asked for the number. This is why it seems only of use for remote clients.

What these services actually do with this reference number is still a mystery to me. I would not have thought that there is some sort of database of all UK passport holders made available to the public.
