I have been using Moneysoft Payroll Manager all morning on my Windows 8.1 Deskstop Surface Pro 3 and now it won't run, it keeps opening multiple screens advising me of the NIC allowance which I am unable to close. I did call moneysoft and they tried and were unable to help. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am a small bureau trying to do the monthly payroll and I am pulling my hair out.
So far:
I have uninstalled
Reinstalled
Tried to close the program with task manager
When I hit restart it confirms that Moneysoft is stopping the pc from closing
Thanks in advance for any assistance

Moneysoft support
Ring Moneysoft support again and tell them that "unable to help" is an unacceptable response.
Ditch Windows 8
Buy a computer with Windows 7 and use that.
Every PC I've encountered with Window 8 has had issues.
I use moneysoft on windows 8.1 without issue, so I suggest the problem is not that in itself?
Have you tried running as administrator?
I have problems doing certain tasks on my 8.1 machine
such as emailing payslips. MoneySoft wouldn't/couldn't help.
Fortunately my spare computer is Windows 8 so I have to upload the data on to that each month and email payslips.
I would suggest you buy a cheap windows 7 or 8 pc just for MoneySoft.
Windows 8.1
I'd been avoiding installing 8.1 as I'd heard of problems with Moneysoft but one day recently it was installed automatically. After installation I immediately opened Moneysoft and found that all the companies had the archived years added. It took some time to manually re-archive those years.
I don't think Moneysoft will be able to help since the problems seem to vary between my sort (minor and luckily easily fixed) to yours (major).
I would suggest you look for an engineer who is Windows 8 and 8.1 conversant. There's little doubt that 8.1 does alter some settings. As an example, when attempting to print from Moneysoft, it told me that my printer wasn't set up for A4 paper and had reset it for the American size paper.
What's windows 8?
What's this new fangled windows 8 thingie? I've just been dragged kicking and screaming into using Windows 7 that's because I've bought a new PC and couldn't find a seller who'd put xp on it instead of Windows 8 - I eventually persuaded one to put windows 7 on it and I've had no issues at all (presumably win 7 has been out so long it's now stable and the software firms have updated their programmes now for it!
Still using windows xp on my lappie and home pcs. (Yes, I know the risks and take precautions but it still does exactly what I want, so will survive for a while longer).
More seriously though, I make a point of always staying one version behind everyone else whenever I buy a new lappie or PC. You can still usually find a computer with an "old" OS or you can get the supplier to install an old o/s instead of the latest. In fact, I've had some good bargains buying "old" computers that are supposedly out of date.
Never seen the need to have the latest up to date o/s. All I ever read about are problems with the first releases that need fixes, or software that can't ever be re-written as soon as a new o/s comes out so take time to sort out.
Even Windows 7.....
Even Windows 7 has some issues. I recently switched to 64 bit and now I regularly but intermittently have issues with window focus. When I try to change companies the list of companies often doesn't show until I switch away to another window and then back again
Agree Windows 8.1 could be a nightmare
I luckily pay for IT support, but even they had problems setting up my new computer. All the Microsoft programs needed a fix. It took about 3 weeks for me to feel confident I could do all the usual computing tasks.
There is still a problem with the apps, but I didn't know I needed them, and apparently the whole system would need to be reinstalled to get the problem sorted so I'm not fussed there.
Sage payroll won't send data automatically to email on Windows 8.1. There is a workaround on their website but I don't understand it, so I'll need to get my IT people involved again. As I'm paying them anyway no probs.
So if I had Moneysoft I suspect I would have the same issues.
My best advice is to pay for regular online support. If you want a really good, personable IT company I would recommend mine. Just pm me for details. I can't do without them. The number of times they've sorted out both major and minor problems has more than paid me back for their help.
I run Moneysoft on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 with no problems at all, so would suggest it is windows settings causing problems and not Moneysoft
Moving away from Windows
I didn't really have a problem with Moneysoft running on Windows 8.1 as far as I remember, rather a problem of running 8.1 itself! In the end I gave up when a fundemental Windows upgrade just wouldn't install. I've gone to Linux (Ubuntu) and run Windows 7 in VirtualBox and all my Windows programs work perfectly (Moneysoft, TAS Accounts, MS Office, etc). Windows XP will also work fine.
There are alternatives and, best of all, Ubuntu is open source & free (as are the vast majority of Linux programs you may need). Give it a try - you can download Ubuntu and runit from a DVD to see whether it will work on your hardware so you don't have to install it first.
No problems with 8.1
I don't have any problems running Moneysoft with Windows 8.1 64 bit. A long shot but maybe the last Moneysoft file you worked on got corrupted? Delete this file (you must have a back-up) and see if this solves the issue. Also clean your computer/cache. The problem must be with your settings or computer.
No idea
I have Windows - no idea whether it's Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Sounds very techy to me.
For what its worth
our computer whizz kid said windows 8 was like windows vista. Avoid it if you are in business
Just a follow up to my earlier post in case it helps anyone
I was having problems using Moneysoft on my main Windows 8.1 computer (specifically I couldn't email payslips). Moneysoft support couldn't help as it worked on their 8.1 computer. I got round the problem by using my spare Windows 8.1 computer to email payslips which was obviously inconvenient as I had to back up and restore my payroll data in order to do this.
I then found that my main Windows computer was getting slower and slower and started freezing every 4 hours or so. I was advised to perform a PC Refresh which is a new feature in Windows 8/8.1, I did this last weekend and my main computer is now running just like it did when it was new. I can also now also email payslips from Moneysoft.
The downside of doing a PC Refresh is that although all my documents were unaffected, I had to reload all my programs (Sage, Moneysoft, Microsoft Office etc), all my browsers and printer drivers etc, , so it look several hours to do. However, it was well worth it for me as I was tempted to buy a new computer but I do not need to now.
