Most ridiculous paye code?

Most ridiculous paye code?

Didn't find your answer?

Salary of £7650.  PAYE code of K9681. Words fail me.

Can anyone beat that?

Unlikely

That code is invalid, as you cannot take more than 50% of cash wages in tax. The same would be true of anything higher, so it is to be hoped that is an extreme anomaly.

I've had one the other way for 2 years running. Current one is whopping 7500L !!! It include a large pension contribution my client paid 3  years ago. I've told HMRC it was a one-off pension payment but they persist in including it.

Sounds like a nice cash flow advantage for your client if left as it is.

I can't remember if there is a risk of penalty for deliberate misstatement of content in a PAYE coding notice?

I.e. leaving too much allowances in when you know it is incorrect, or asking HMRC to include allowances in the code that are false?

I imagine there must be for the latter.

Even hmrc were surprised when I phoned them.  It has now been amended to a more sensible 1000L.

Presumably HMRC had incorrect information concerning salary/pension.

At least it's been corrected now.
