Musician - Allowable Travel expenses

Musician - Allowable Travel expenses

Didn't find your answer?

I have a UK client who is a self employed musician

In 2013/14 he spent 3 months in the US. networking and song writing and was successful in being signed by a management company

He has subsequently obtained a 3 year O1 Artist visa  and plans to be become non resident once he moves to the US, he will be treated as self employed in the US.

My question is can he claim the travel and accommodation costs of the 3 month trip against his 2013/14 UK self employed income?

Any assistance with this would be appreciated

Maybe

A deduction may be available against income assessable in the UK, if that income is derived from the US "tour". If it's assessable in the US, then it would be deductible under their rules.
