Nell Diamond ... #HMD

Nell Diamond ... #HMD

Didn't find your answer?

Now we have an unsavory Tweet from Nell Diamond, daughter of Bob Diamond, which has since been removed and replaced with something more sanitised

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2168521/Nell-Diamond-Daughter-Bob-Diamond-takes-Twitter-defend-dad.html

What an odious family this is and why is it deemed acceptable to post tweets of this nature under any circumstances?

Nell Diamond works as an Analyst for Deutsche Bank and demonstrates all the arrogance of her father and those that have brought the entire banking industry into disrepute - youth does not excuse this

Nevertheless, this raises the interesting issue of social media and the employer. In a high profile case such as this, when everyone knows your employer and banking is currently a touchy subject, is it appropriate for staff to make a tweet of this nature against an elected politician (Chancellor of the Exchequer) and also the head of the BOE of another country

Especially targeting those in charge of the banking industry where your employer has a presence and your father has resigned under a cloud

So the question is - should Deutsche Bank sack her forthwith and what would you do as an employer in this situation.

In this case

I'd take her to one side and speak to her like the child she obviously still is.

This family obviously has all the money in the world but, as my mother used to say "no breeding".

She's obviously been promoted above her (educational) capabilities.

Yet another reason why I hate "social media" and steer well clear of it. I think its an age thing and, I hate the thought of people being able to insult each other. Really, what is that all about.

For goodness sake, why would any anyone want to HMD?

Much ado about nothing

JC, why are you so upset by these tweets?  Twitter is designed for pointless crap, and it seems to me that a headline which essentially reads "23 year old posts pointless crap on twitter" isn't particularly newsworthy.  Is it a surprise that she doesn't like George Osborne and Ed Miliband?

To suggest she should lose her job is disproportionate in the extreme.  What she is saying on twitter and what most 20 somethings say in Facebook and/or Twitter is no different at all.  She is entitled to her opinion, the only question is - why all the attention?

hmmmm....

'No one bank can fix a rate to which 15 other banks contribute with their own submissions'.'''

Indeed, and no one can fix the petrol prices such that they are within a penny or two of each other....and i am sure there is no collusion in the suppliers of electricity/gas etc....

Yes, justsotax

you really can't blame anyone in society at the moment, who has the attitude "why should I bother"?

I'm sure the UK isn't alone but, with what has gone on, in recent years; MP's expenses scandal, Leveson, PPI mis-selling and Libor rate fixing, it's all starting to have a very nasty smell and, unless its cleaned up very quickly, anarchy will start to take hold, if it hasn't already.

HMD?

Now I know what 'HMD' stands for, I don't understand how it can ever be said by a woman, unless she is actually a pre-op trannie.

(Joke, in case her lawyers are Googling).

Maybe for a woman, the D stands for [***].

caught some of the questioning yesterday....

does everybody in high profile jobs not have a clue what is happening within their organisations?!

You would think with a £20 million package you would at least take some responsibility....it appears not though..........#[***]....

High profile jobs come with large and complex businesses.  It's not possible for one person to know everything that happens in an organisation of that size.  It's a bit like expecting David Cameron to know that you speed on the way to work, or go shoplifting at Tescos.  It might be wrong and it might be going on, but corporate systems and controls only go so far.

@thisiistibi....sorry to burst your bubble...

but we are not talking about the toilet cleaner at one of his branches stealing some paperclips....

I am also guessing he is not picking up £20 mil because he reads a few letters and goes to the odd party representing barclays....presumably he knows something about banking....at various levels....he probably doesn't require cashier experience but it is probably useful if he surrounds himself with someone who has half a clue about personal banking (and who can see the opportunities available to sell to clients etc) amongst other areas.

Ever wondered why DC will do the odd visit to a council estate - well i am pretty sure its not because he wants his car nicked.....

@justsotax

You didn't burst my bubble, because you didn't put forward any reasons as to why I might be wrong.  Yes, he knows a lot about banking and is very involved in the organisation.  It remains a big, complex company with more going on that he can always be expected to know about.  It's a common problem in large organisations.... you have to put your trust in other senior people within the organisation, without knowing precisely what is going on.

I was obviously a little too subtle...

i was suggesting that the people taking this decisions were senior people within the investment part that he managed at one point....not a lowly cashier fiddling the books.  So i guess it depends on whether you would expect the top man in a banking organisation to take more than a fleeting interest in the Libor rate and how barclays impacts on it?

In the same way DC can't be expected to know your every movement....but as I suggested he will go visiting various communities, businesses etc because he realises the importance of at least having a handle on what peoples experiences are in order to adjust his policies to ensure the economy he manages does ok.

Personally i don't think it is too much to expect of a person 'managing' a business to take an interest in what is happening within it....indeed if they are not one has to wonder how truly effective they can be at getting the most out of it and its staff......
