NHS Pension Input Amounts - what is going on?

Didn't find your answer?

My client has had enormous difficulty getting a statement from NHS pensions regarding his Pension Input Amounts since new rules came in.  He is a psychiatry consultant working in a University so I understand the pension scheme is a bit more complicated for him than others.  However, despite numerous requests for a statement for 2013/14, it has not been forthcoming.  Furthermore the figures eventually provided for earlier years are completely different from the draft figures I calculated.  My client says that he has heard other medics complaining about similar issues.  A request for detailed workings underlying the NHS figures was made back in February 2014 and has still not been forthcoming despite monthly reminders.  Is anyone else having issues?

Keep prodding.

NHS pensions are often difficult to deal with. Sorry I have no other advice to offer.

NHS pensions

If your client is a salaried officer of the NHS his monthly payslip will probably show monthly and cumulative pension contributions as well as pensionable pay. If self-employed then remittance advices sent to him will normally show pension contributions that have been deducted at source. Not all NHS pay is pensionable, for instance travel allowances are normally outwith the scheme as is the first 10% of locum income.

Finally there is normally an officer who deals with such matters within the admin offices of NHS (England) for the local area of your client. If you can locate the name of this individual they may well prove to be quite helpful, you may need to get clearance from your client to speak to them however.
