Night out allowance

Night out allowance

Didn't find your answer?

Hi All

Just a quick question, we have a small haulage company that employs drivers that have to work away over night quite a lot.

Is there a set allowance they can pay the employees to cover meal allowances etc? Also is there an allowance the employer can pay to cover the cost of accommodation if the employee wishes not to stay in the cab?

I have told them to ask the employees to keep meal receipts and then reimburse them but it seems to b going in one ear and out of the other.

Thanks in advance

Yes

There are set allowances. Put 'tax treatment of lorry drivers' into the search box on the HMRC website and you'll get some useful pages.

Try here

For overnight allowance, EIM66110, but subject to a 25% restriction if the lorry has a sleeper cab, EIM66130.  For meals, the tax-free allowance is only £2, EIM66140, but you can pay more against receipts.
