Non Resident refund of tax

Non Resident refund of tax

Didn't find your answer?

Client left the UK in September 2012 back to her home country after 5 years stay in the UK and does not intend to come back to the UK. Therefore she is non resident from date of departure under the old residency rules

She was in employment and HMRC had sent her a tax return to complete

She was a high tax payer and therefore would be due a refund.  We completed a tax return for her but presumably we need to complete the Residency Pages since she is non resident and perhaps she would still need to complete the P85.

no P85 per HMRC
I asked a question about the need for P85 from HMRC a while back and was told that it is only needed if the person is not in self-assessment. As your client was sent a return you can instead complete that, claim split year treatment on the residency pages and receive the refund that way.
