Okay to submit CGT comps by post?

Okay to submit CGT comps by post?

Didn't find your answer?

Trying to submit cgt computations as a pdf attachment to the tax return however the gateway keeps on coming back with an error. The attachment isn't that big 100k however would it be okay to submit the tax return without the attachments and send them by post (although the comps will arrive at HMRC after the deadline).

Thanks :)

What is the error?

The return is not technically complete without the computations.

Thanks for your response.

Using FTax - ERROR MESSAGE: There is a communications problem and your data cannot be submitted through government gateway. We are aware of this and aim to resolve it as soon as possible. You are advised to wait 30 minutes and then re-submit your form data.

I've wasted lots of time already re-submitting. What do you suggest - is it likely to go through late at night / earlier in the morning?

Thanks again.

I forgot to add that other returns are going through fine. Software provider states size is probably the issue.

Screenshots

Nevertheless, some screenshots will support any "reasonable excuse" claim.

Surely it's easier just to wait an hour or two rather than have to change the return and get the client to re-authorise it.

Personally, I haven't seen any problems with submitting attachments today, and 100K is really quite small.

Reduce the size

Try PDF handling software to reduce the size of the PDF document, then re-attach it. I use Foxit Phantom but any Adobe Acrobat compatible would do it.

Can you not make it smaller? 100k is huge for what is surely at most 2 pages of text.

pdfs

Potentially it might also be a problem with the pdf encoding.  Can you create the pdf in another way and then attach it?

Also it's definitely a pdf you're trying to attach and not some other file format renamed as a pdf?

Ha, yes I have my moments, but it's definitely a pdf! I'm printing it out in pdf but will give it a go creating it in a pdf another way.

Thanks.
