Online 64-8's for Limited companies

Online 64-8's for Limited companies

Didn't find your answer?

Until recently, for newly formed limited companies, I was able to start the online authorisation process once the CT41g arrived displaying the corporation tax reference.

However, in the last couple of months, and even after completed CT41g's have been submitted, the authorisation requests repeatedly fail - the CT ref is correct, the RO correct and I have even put in an 8 gigit co reg no.

Anyone else having the same problem and found a solution or am I best to submit paper 64-8's?

Many Thanks

A couple of things to look at ...
RO address, this may be correct, but is it what HMRC have?I have also found it fails if you put RO postcode and company number, but will go through with only one of these completed.

Company number = guaranteed failure

In my experience authorisation will fail for certain if you try to use the company number as one of the two required data inputs for verification.

I therefore suggest using just the postcode and the UTR copying these directly from the CT41G or notice to file a CT return.   This works every time for me if I copy these from the CT notice (ie. even if CT notice is wrong use the data thereon!).

HMRC's error

As it happens there's an "or" between CRN and Postcode on the data input page, easily overlooked especially when inferred on previous page that all THREE pieces of data required.

It appears that HMRC (like some commercial companies) have some incompetents writing their software and hence no error message to say WHY failed, and no instruction to say ONLY type in TWO data fields - such are the problems faced regularly by users of commercial accounts production, commercial tax programs and HMRC software.  Such are the challenges that we have to face all to frequently nowadays!

I have reason to believe that if you use UTR and CRN alone the verification will fail as well.

HMRC information

The last time I tried to register I realised that the postcode of the registered office was not loaded on HMRC system. Although I was using UTR and CRN, which had always worked sucessfully in the past, the request kept failing.

I asked client to phone in the postcode, waited a couple of days and tried again, and UTR with CRN then worked
