Hi

Good luck with your business venture.

A few points after having a quick look;

(1) No need for 100 exclamation marks.

(2) I cannot get my head around your pricing structure. If I have 5 employees running a weekly payroll the fee would be £15.00 but if I had 6 employees it would cost £27.60? An extra £12.60 for one extra employee?

(3) Being locally based means you are assured of a friendly, personal service

By putting this you are limiting your potential client base and you don't make it clear where you are based,

(4) You have a mobile number but no name.

(5) No mention of RTI and they impact on businesses. You need to give the impression that you are up to date on these issues and show that you can relieve the burden from small businesses.

(6) Poor grammar makes reading some paragraphs difficult.

Call me a pedant, but my first thought was the grammar alternates between good and poor, such as

I have 15 years experience in commercial environment mainly in financial systems and payroll roles and now I am taking the leap in starting up on my own.

Ensuring any deductions for Pensions or Student Loans are if required

It's far from the worst grammar I've ever read, but things like that (and some of your sentences read like they need breaks in them) just take the edge off the otherwise quite good impression.

Beetle was a nickname (looks like they have adopted it now though) not what VW originally called it, Polo is named from the Polar winds if you bothered reading the link and camper van is generic and not a VW model, the current model is California, but they also have Caravelle, Caddy and Crafter, the van is Transporter (Imaginative!), the pick up is the Amarok (NOT Anorak) and what about Touareg , Touran, Up, Phaeton, Tiguan and Sharan, Eos and XL1 and finally, the CC.

I kind of agree about the pricing - I would put it at 'minimum charge + x for each additional employee' or something like that. I think we all know what it means already really, but it is slightly ambiguous.

Overall it isn't too bad  site.  A bit clunky for my taste but horses for courses.  The 'payroll services' tab is horrendous though IMHO.  The emboldened italicised text instead of proper formatting is not at all easy on the eye (be that from an aesthetic perspective or simply being able to read it at all).

Where to start

1. It's too brief

2. You use 'I' but there is not much about you

3. By using 'I' you are telling prospects you are very small

4. By saying you are 'making a leap' you are telling prospects you are untried and untested

5. Could you handle a new payroll of 250? If so, how could you provide the continuity of service if you were ill? If no, why give the impression you want clients that size?

Not great

This is going to come across as terribly negative. It may seem harsh, but I am just trying to point out things that may put customers off, so please take these comments in that spirit.

The background is needlessly busy, and unnecessarily restricts the space for informative text.

The second line of bullet points starting under the bullet itself, rather than aligning with the text of the first line, looks bad.

There is a login link on all pages that appears to have no purpose. Is it for editing the website itself? Dangerous to include such a link if so, even on a demo page, as it makes it easier for a hacker wishing to damage the page.

"This takes away all your payroll hassles and worry and saves you both time and worry" is a meaningless boast that you haven't really justified.

Only vague reference to your location on the front page. Your actual location is only on the contact page. If I have to hunt to find out if you are near to me, I will probably use someone else. As a limited company, this information should be on every page anyway, so it would be best to put these details in the footer of every page.

"I am taking a leap in starting up on my own" is not a sentence that inspires confidence. The vagueness of the actual roles you have undertaken does not make me sure you are good at payroll.

You make reference to Inland Revenue within Payroll Services. Not been that for quite some time now.

You mention a Total Satisfaction Guarantee under "Why Outsource", but this is meaningless without detail of what this means.

As already pointed out, the per payslip cost is confusing. Presumably this is the cost for each additional individual.

Numerous typos. "Emloyees" on the price page and "Bimingham" on the contact page for a start. It is usually best to get someone else to proof-read. Spotting ones own typos is harder than you would think.

As I said, sorry to be so negative. Hope that helps.

Can I ask why you're doing P11Ds?

Seems a bit of an odd addition to your services. Will you have all the information required? Director's loan account details, medical insurance, accountancy benefits, fuel, phone?

In the firms I've seen P11D's are usually dealt with by the tax department.

EDIT  - the 'about us' page is not coherent, its also grammatically incorrect. You also start with 'I'. Why not change it to 'about me.'

You don't have a company logo?

Year end

I would not expect to pay extra for a year end if I was paying a monthly fee,

What about CIS ?

Just my observations and I hope it all goes well for you.

Sorry last comment -

"Produce your P11D's and pay your class 1A NIC's if required."

I'd rephrase that as it looks like you're footing the bill for your client's class 1A.

Not upto date

" File your P35 online for you (if required) "

This should read file your end of year declaration online (as no P35 forms as such exist except for a really miniscule number of employers).

I couldn't find any reference to Employers Allowance, actually mentioning this could get potential clients thinking positively about you as a bureau since I guess many accountants and payroll bureau haven't mentioned this to their existing clients.

Outdated

As with other posters, the following is offered in a spirit of constructive criticism...

The section on Fully Managed Payroll Bureau Services is out of date and doesn't make your offering at all clear. This is the section which primarily sells your service so it needs to be good.

It references sending P45, P46, P14 and P35 details to HMRC but all of these (other than the employee copies of the P45) are now obsolete under RTI.You need to say which RTI services you provide. FPS? EPS? EYU? As a fully managed service you ought to do all these but you need to say so.You mention pensions but you need to be clear on just what you do. For example do you only collect contributions or do you carry out workforce assessments and auto-enrolment, and if so what aspects of this complex area do you cover? It's not clear what "Send your employees payments via BACs (if you have a BACs facility)" actually means. Do you make BACS submissions on behalf of your clients or do you produce the data for them to send themselves?

Eh?

Is Birmingham in Yorkshire now? You say you're in the heart of Yorkshire (probably your main selling point in my opinion) but your contact page says Birmingham. I'll admit geography isn't my strong point but I'm still fairly sure that Birmingham is in the Midlands and Yorkshire is further on up North. Very different accents.

Flash - don't bring geography into your posts, this is a forum for accountants, not lorry drivers ;-P

I do have a couple more points though:

(1) You say on your website "recently taking the leap in starting on your own". However, your company was formed on 13th May 2009.

(2) The SIC code you have used for your business is 46140 - Agents involved in the sale of industrial equipment, ships and aircraft.

You have sold yourself short, you could have made it as you know the difference between Birmingham and the heart of Yorkshire.

Yeah but I don't know how to get there!

On an unrelated note, it's refreshing to find someone (the OP) who not only requests honest feedback but actually takes it on board and appreciates it. A gutsy move that will hopefully result in an effective website.

Two more points to add..

I'm not sure if your website is set up to show correctly (or at least similarly) on all browsers.  Stepurhan above mentions an unnecessarily busy background, but I see only a plain grey background.  I would actually say to me the website looks very dull, but perhaps there's a background I can't see.  I am using IE.  Also there appears to be a box on the front page that's supposed to say "Scirocco" in big letters but on my screen I just get "Sciroc" and the rest cut off.

Secondly you have switched between "Scirocco Ltd" and "Scirocco Payroll Services Ltd" - you need to make sure the company name is correct and consistent.

sylou wrote:

The appearance in different browsers is a good point. What version of IE are you using? I'm using Firefox 27.0.1. No doubt there are some people here on other browsers as well.

The website feels home made from a template. It might be worth getting a web designer in for general site advice, and to fix these cross-browser differences. Money well-spent if this is your shop window to the world.

IE8

I'm using IE8.  Yes, I know, not the best browser, and not the latest version, but I'm on an old laptop, as I'm sure many other people would be.

The appearance on a phone is also worth considering.  So many people use phones as their main browser now.

You need

a professional web designer as your website needs re-designing and re-structuring.The look is very unprofessional, dull and poorly written texture,as,if you have made it yourself watching 'Topgear' episodes..if this business is going to be for your living than its worth taking it seriously..there are alot of gramatical and spelling mistakes which proves unprofessional and careless attitude and none of the customers would be impressed i am afraid.
