Paying for Non-employee flight and accommodation

Paying for Non-employee flight and accommodation

Didn't find your answer?

Our company organises conferences and for this we have several speakers. The director has agreed to pay for the flight / accommodation for the speakers.

Personally I think the speaker should pay for the flight / accommodation themselves and then invoice this cost back to us (Ideally at the same time they charge their speaker fee).

However, the director wants to pay for the flights and accommodation directly so that we make sure the best deal is found. Would doing it this way mean we need to class it as entertainment or can you think of any other issues?

Many Thanks

It is not entertaining, you are paying a speaker to speak and part of the package is that you are paying for them to get there.  It's part of the contract.

ok thank you - I assume it
Ok thank you - I assume it does not really matter if the speaker pays and invoices the cost back to us / or if we simply pay for flights/accommodation directly.

My thoughts about it being better for them to pay themselves and invoice us are wrong then.
