Payroll for groups

Payroll for groups

Didn't find your answer?

I have been asked to take over a small payroll for an existing charity. How do I regiser them to act as payroll agent.

I only noticed a selection for sole traders/pernerships and ltd co's. Do I need to email HMRC to act for them. Can someone give me a contact email address.

What is the problem?

Why can't you apply for agent authorisation online in the usual way?  You will need only the PAYE Reference and the AO Reference.  HMRC sends the usual letter to the registered address of the charity quoting the authorisation code for you to enter when they tell you the code.

I am assuming that you are registered with HMRC as an agent generally.

Thanks Ewan

I thought that would be the process but unless my glasses need cleaned I read that a charity / group couldn't register payroll this way but by email on the HMRC site.

Registering as agent or for PAYE?

You can certainly apply for a PAYE scheme for a charity using the e-mail facility, but I can see no exclusion from registering as an agent online for an existing PAYE scheme, just because the PAYE scheme is for a charity.
