Payroll Software

Payroll Software

Didn't find your answer?

we are looking to move away from 12pay for our payroll as AE isnt standard and will double the cost to us

we want something that will ideally have full AE features built in as standard and do the usual standard stuff as well

if we could get something with an employee portal / sign in as well that would be a real bonus

recommendations please

If you don't necessarily require Cloud payroll then I would suggest Moneysoft Payroll Manager, they have added AE functions for no extra cost.

IRIS Kashflow

I haven't used the AE yet, but it seems to have full functionality. And employees have their own log-in too. Make sure you ask for the accountants pricing!

12PAY

My 12-pay bureau licence with AE module gives me everything I think I will need to know. It really isn't that expensive.........

Moneysoft, BUT...

...we use Moneysoft and it is great.  AE is fully functional too.

But...shouldn't you just charge your clients for dealing with AE and stick with the software that you know best and that has all your data on?

What are other accountants doing with AE and charges/fees?

Keytime

Hi busacrun

Keytime Payroll is a HMRC recognised RTI compliant payroll software package used by hundreds of accountants.

RTI and Auto Enrolment are two big changes in PAYE and Payroll. Keytime have accommodated these changes and our payroll package provides the tools to allow organisations to be compliant with their duties.

Employees have to be informed at key stages in the automatic enrolment process. We’ve developed an Auto Enrolment Communications module for Payroll which enables you to create and maintain your own worker communication templates in Microsoft Word. All templates can be customised and printed.

We’ve also developed a Payslip Portal which will enable you to send your electronic payslips up to the cloud at the push of a button. The portal is a simple and secure way to deliver payslips without worrying about email addresses and spam filters.

Regards,

Callum Macrae

12Pay - Back to the drawing board

We have been using Moneysoft for several years and have been happy with the software, but were concerned about their lack of auto-enrolment features.

The decision was taken to switch to 12Pay, as the cost, even with the CIS and AE modules was not that much higher than for Moneysoft (just over double I think)

Our first staging dates are early next year, so I planned to get 12Pay up and running for 2015/16 so we would be ready for the first auto-enrolment clients.

Unfortunately, I have just made the decision to go back to Moneysoft for the time being until I am able to find more suitable software as 12Pay has been a disaster.

They have a weird licensing system, which prevents us being able to set up or access any of our payroll clients at the moment as their website seems to be down.

We have tried to call their support line, but we just get a message saying nobody is available and get cut off.

A licensing system which means we would be reliant upon their systems being up and running to operate payroll is just not good enough - so as the title says - back to the drawing board.

12pay - the IRIS EFFECT - beware

" We have tried to call their support line, but we just get a message saying nobody is available and get cut off.

A licensing system which means we would be reliant upon their systems being up and running to operate payroll is just not good enough - so as the title says - back to the drawing board. "

As a user of PTP Software I have become accustomed to the "IRIS" level of support (zilch or poor) - as I had expected looks like 12pay users will now suffer like us PTP users.

It would be interesting to hear a response from IRIS on this lack of adequate software support for the software products that they've acquired from other developers.

Actionfile

Previously I've used Actionfile Paypoint. At times I didn't think it was user friendly, but then we didn't have the latest version. There were newer versions with new functionalities being brought out that would integrate with time and attendance, web logins etc. The real benefit and what brought it into its own was the support - whenever you phoned with queries you usually spoke to either the operations manager or technical manager: both extremely knowledgeable about payroll in general, not just the software. And of course it's HMRC approved.

Actionfile was actually bought by Access, but they do still have an office near Oxford, so I can only assume at least some of the infrastructure remains. Given my experience with Actionfile, I would say definitely worth consideration.

As Standard

BrightPay has AE features as standard including communications. There is no extra charges for AE or add on AE 'modules'.

Brightpay

I looked at Brightpay - but the £500 charge for the CIS module killed that idea.

Moneysoft

I have used Moneysoft now for 4 years and I am extremely happy with it.  At no extra charge it provides full CIS coverage, payslips, vouchers, CIS 300 and automatically adds the tax to the PAYE bill.  Also at no extra charge they have included AE and as far as I can see it is all singing, all dancing like the CIS.  All at a fraction of the cost of most other payroll software, and they update throughout the year, not just at the year end.  What more could you want.

12-pay

I had a look at Moneysoft and decided it was old dogs, new tricks, as I'm retiring in 18 months time!

I emailed my concerns to 12-pay who assured me that the recorded customer service message was simply due to huge pressure of c alls at year-end. Yes I think they have been bought out by Iris but the HUGE difference in price (Iris is £800!) still leaves 12-pay streets ahead. Maybe I'm biased because it's so incredibly easy to use. But their emailed help system has worked fine for me.

So hang on in there, 12-pay, for at least another 18 months!

Brightpay

A bit late adding to this topic, but here we go.

I have used Brightpay for at least 10 years now. They managed the transition to RTI with no fuss and everything worked fine straight away, other providers appeared to make a big deal of this and increased their charges. Not Brightpay, they just got on with it and no increase in price.

The same has happened with AE. The system manages this really well. I started to use the AE functions about 6 months ago and have not had any problems. Their web site has help videos if you need them.

Their support is great, none of this e mail nonsense, phone to a real person in a few rings - great.

No cloud offering just yet, but I believe this is on its way. However, the licence does allow you to pop the program on a laptop and then you put the data on dropbox and you can process payroll from anywhere!

Most of my clients that have payroll use Brightpay, several having moved from the larger suppliers. The price is good and the software easy to use.

They are a great company to deal with, not many of this type of company left, they seem to care for their customers and have always been very helpful.

As the chair of a charity I am also grateful that they offer the product free to charities no matter how many employees.

Hope that helps

David

We have been using 12Pay (breau version)a long time. Service / support was great at the beginning. I think after Iris took over, it all went downhill. I have emailed / called them may months and a few times last few weeks. No reply.

We have processed the April 20 Payroll. We have made up our mind now enough is enough and we have to use another company. How easy is it to migrate to another software. Do we have to key in details again? It will be painfull and time consuming then.
