Penalties

Penalties

Didn't find your answer?

Hello,

A long shot I know but would anyone know whether it is possible to appeal late filing penalties on either the grounds of taxpayer’s hardship or penalties disproportionate to outstanding tax?

I have a partnership who were 6 years behind with tax returns – these have now been submitted along with 2012-13 returns. With a payment plan they could clear the tax in 18 months but the penalties would take a further 2 years to clear. They do not have a reasonable excuse – just disorganised/buried their heads in the sand!

Thanks for any ideas.

Worth a try

I just had £100 late filing & £510 daily penalties cancelled.  OK so the client only had £200 income in the year concerned so the penalties were extremely inequitable in comparison.

Always worth a try I think!
