Post AAT?

Post AAT?

Didn't find your answer?

I have recently completed my Level 4 AAT (waiting for one more test result this week), and wondered which route to take? I love the whole industry aspect with getting more hands on hence why I thought I would progress onto CIMA? However I still like the traditional route of becoming ACCA? I am not really entirely 100% sure on which is better and all the differences between to two. I would maybe like to return to working in practice one day aswell so don't know if ACCA would be best route?

Speaking as someone who did ACCA and has always worked in industry, my vote be for ACCA.  I guess it opens up more opportunities in terms of being a Management Accountant, Financial Accountant- you can do either with ACCA.  CIMA is probably more Management Accountant orientated.  Saying that though, I don't think there's much of a difference between them now.
If you are thinking of working in practice one day, I would recommend ACCA

ACCA

I have worked in both industry and practice and am ACCA. That is what I would recommend from personal experience.

Good luck with your results.

Why not look at ICAEW?

I am ACCA and have mainly worked in industry. I have been involved in a lot of recruitment as have managed large teams. In my view there is not a lot of relevance to whether someone is CIMA or ACCA and especially not after a few years where quality of experiemce is much more important. If push came to shove, I would pick CIMA over ACCA though. I have worked overseas a couple of times and it tries a bit harder with mutual recognition.

I think that ICAEW trumps both in terms of recognition and prestige. That is not a personal view, but an observation, I have often argued that they are the same in terms of content, difficulty etc. but still have come across many that will have a lower perception.
