Proof of the efficiency of HMRC

Proof of the efficiency of HMRC

Didn't find your answer?

Thought this one might make you smile (or sigh).

HMRC online services left me an answer phone message this morning quoting a case number and asking me to call back.  I couldn't for the life of me think of any outstanding queries but dutifully called back anyway.  After going through all the security they then put me on hold so they could look into it.  When they came back on the line they gave me the name of the Ltd Company that the case was regarding and said I had raised a query about them not appearing on my agent list.

This slightly threw me - the company has been disolved and I really couldn't remember calling them - I asked when I had called to raise the query and they said.........July 2009.

She said they were just calling me back to say I needed to raise a 64-8.  They do now appear on my agent list (despite not actually existing any more) so it seems that even after taking more than two years to deal with the query they still couldn't get the answer right.

I won't hold my breath ....................

Thanks - so judging by that I can expect an answer to my call to them this morning sometime around 2013-2014.

It's not just HMRC

Last month I received an 'email read' notification from our electricity supplier (actually, now our previous electricity supplier). My email was sent in 2008. (And although they've apparently now read it, they still haven't replied to it.)

remember

the famous 2 Ronnies Mastermind sketch where Charlie Smithers (aka Ronnie Corbett) answers the question before rather than the current...perhaps HMRC are attempting something similar on a vast scale in the hope that we'll all get so confused we'll give up and leave them alone to wreak havoc with our clients ?
