Purchase order for VAT

Purchase order for VAT

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,  I recently started work as bookkeeper and I need a help with one question, please.

Can I use purchase order to reclaim VAT?

In the rule - a simplified invoice for retails supplies under £250, I understand that this include a receipts as well, so it can be any other document which includes all the information under this rule.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Who creates the document?

I would have a think about who creates the actual purchase order document (I suspect not the supplier) and also the time of supply rules ; is there yet a tax point or is it a future event.

 The company bought office

The company bought office stationery for £120.00 and it was placed online. They sent confirmation email with all the details, what needs to be on the invoice. But instead of name Invoice, there is an order number. and the tax point for this company is when it has been paid. Can I use it for VAT claim or request a proper invoice?

From a pragmatic viewpoint if item paid for, e mail/ order  from supplier gives supplier vat number and given amount I would claim input vat with what you already have but would also chase to obtain the invoice for the file. I know from experience that quite often, re online sales, getting hold of a document that actually says "invoice" can be a bit of a chore but I certainly would prefer to have on file. One word of caution, with both purchases orders and invoices within the "system" be careful the purchase does not end up getting processed twice

VATmen

I'm not sure the VATman's going to be bothered issuing an assessment for £20.

Obviously, the more of those there are, the bigger the risk.
