Register a client with HMRC for SA & VAT

Register a client with HMRC for SA & VAT

Didn't find your answer?

Hi

Since HMRC updated their online systems.

I am trying to register a client on the HMRC website for self assessment but all I can seem to do is register as the client.  The option used to be there to be able to register for someone else.  Can anyone point me in the right direction to be able to do this?

Having the same issue with VAT, again can anyone point me in the tright direction?

Many thanks

Phil

Are you registered as an agent?

If so these facilities are available.

Register a client with HMRC for SA & VAT

Log in with your Agent ID then click Your HMRC Services top left

you'll find what you need at the top of the next page

Sign in on HMRC website click on Your HMRC Services. Then the second headline says Register for HMRC Taxes. Follow the links. It os much easier with the new updates and you can click a box for VAT Flat Rate too rather than filling in another form.

Yes I am registered as an agent.

When I click on "Register for HMRC taxes", the message says "Do not follow this link if you are an agent, or acting on behalf of someone else as you must first sign up for an Agent account via the Government Gateway website.

Once you have your Agent account you can return to the HMRC website and log in to use the business registration service. "

Do I need to contact HMRC to get this added to my services? Or do I just continue on?

I've tried just about everything (as you can see in my blog) and I still can't register a client for VAT.

I have it book marked so only get in one way via HMRC homepage, then click on Tax agents & advisers, then login to HMRC online. You then get a welcome screen where you enter your user ID and password, you might get a security message next but your HMRC services comes up next. You can then select various things and if you have reached this point I don't need to go any further.

I can get that far, whenever I click on the register for taxes button there is not an option to register on behalf of a client.

pawncob, I've had a read over your blog and can see the trouble you have had.

It looks as if you have to let on you are the client to register..... Not correct in any way but what other option do we have??

I have just tried using this and was able to create a dummy client which I then deleted. I agree the reference to not using it if you are an agent is confusing but it must have recognised me and let me proceed. I thought all registered agents have a gateway account anyway. What do you see when you hit the register for HMRC taxes? You should get Registration what would you like to do next page and proceed via the tab at the bottom and all the relevant pages follow.
