Reinvestment relief

Reinvestment relief

Didn't find your answer?

Would I be right in thinking that reinvestment (rollover) relief is not available on the sale and/or purchase of unquoted shares in trading companies.  Or can you get rollover relief under these circumstances.

References to legislation or manuals would be appreciated.

.

you are correct, reinvestment relief was abolished yonks ago.

"yonks ago" is anything more than 10 year ago.

EIS

Reinvestment relief was replaced by EIS deferral relief. This allows any capital gains to be deferred by investment, i.e. subscription, in shares in qualifying companies. This works in a broadly similar way to reinvestment relief but is more restrictive. There never has been a form of rollover relief by buying shares in unquoted trading companies.
