research & development expenditure

Didn't find your answer?

One of our client companies  has a potential research and development  expenditure claim to asses if applicable  and if applicable, to make to HMRC claim.  What is a reasonable accounting charge to make for this claim? Should it be on a contingency basis and if on a percentage of tax saved, then what amount is reasonable? Many thanks for guidance.

contingency
I think you will find 20% of the tax saving is a common charge.

Depends

It really depends on the level of work you will be doing.

If you will be preparing a technical summary and expenditure templates then 20% is pretty standard on a "no win, no fee" basis, although a lot of firms are now starting to charge up front and non-refundable admin fees.

If you will simply be amending the CT600 with the R&D figures then an hours time charge would seem more appropriate.
