RTI and casual bar staff

RTI and casual bar staff

Didn't find your answer?

I have a client who is going to commence trade in a nightclub type of environment and will be employing casual bar staff who will mostly have other jobs, so PAYE scheme necessary along with RTI etc.

I know from reading articles on here in the past that wages, subject to tax, can be paid at end of shift and RTI submitted within 7 days.

In cases like this what do you class as the payment day? Do you say Wednesday for instance so that it captures all of the previous weekends payments?

Or have I got this totally wrong?

Using Moneysoft payroll by the way.

Cheers in advance to all who read and respond.

John

Pick a day

Any day of the week will cover all payments made in the previous 7 days.  You are taking advantage of the "easement" at the bottom of page 2 of the HMRC guidance.

Presumably, you will get the staff to sign Starter Checklists (click on Next to get to the second page, then on Print to print a blank form) with Box C ticked, so you will deduct tax at 20% from their gross pay.  Be careful about NIC.  You may pay them on a daily basis, but if any are paid more than £149 gross in a week, you would have to deduct NIC as well.  The best advice to the client is to employ each member of staff for no more than 2 nights a week in order to keep their pay below the NIC threshold.
