RTI - fed up - rubbish system

Didn't find your answer?

More of a rant than a question, but have just wasted 1 hour of my time.

Client has a nanny - so one employee on payroll.

Nanny goes on maternity leave in April.  I calculate SMP for the full 39 weeks, deduct the tax and NI that will be due on the SMP and claim a refund from HMRC for the net amount.  Client receives a cheque for £000 so all happy.  I told the client that nothing would be due until nanny returns form maternity leave (there is no one else on the payroll).  All EPS's and FPS's have been submitted on time since then.

Client has now received a demand for the tax and NI on the nanny's wages for months 1-3, even though I showed in the refund that this had been deducted from our claim - there is a box to show this on the claim form so I have not done anything unusual, or at least I did not think I had....

I have just spent an hour on the phone trying to get someone to understand that nothing is due.  Finally one guy "gets it" and has now gone off to sort it out but does not know how long it will take.

What happened to the sleek new system that was going to save us all time and money????

I think you may have misinterpreted the word "us".
